I Was Part of the Verdi Cycle

John Spencer

My first season at Sarasota Opera was Winter 2012 as the Apprentice to the Music Staff. I played for chorus rehearsals, attended mainstage rehearsals, and ran supertitles for two operas, among other duties. The Verdi opera that season was Otello, and it was the first full Verdi that I ever worked on.

Since that incredible introduction to his genius, I am completely enthralled by Verdi: his life and his music. After Otello, I worked on Rigoletto (2012), Un giorno di regno (2013), and the Verdi concerts, and am looking forward to Il trovatore (2014) and Jérusalem (2014) in the Winter Opera Festival. I’m so happy to have been a part of this incredible project!

VIVA VERDI!
